TEAM PRIDE FALL 2010 PROGRAM

Every Sunday Starting in September - November (10 sessions)
Location to be announced

ALTHOUGH THE TOURNAMENTS ARE FOR U-19 PLAYERS ONLY,
SUNDAYS ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL AGES!

This program is an effort by PRIDE HOCKEY to bring Women’s hockey back to Western MA. PRIDE HOCKEY has recognized a void in the development of the female hockey player and this program addresses that void. Too much emphasis is put on game play! How often does one handle the puck in a 1 hour game? Jaromir Jagr, one of the best players in the game at one time, handled the puck 1 minute and 38 seconds in any given NHL game. Put that in perspective and you can see that skating and skills are not going to be improved by playing games! This program will provide the aspiring female athlete the necessary tools to develop their skill set, be taught by coaches who have played the game and are currently coaching the game, play in 2 very competitive tournaments and be in great “hockey shape” for their upcoming seasons!

We created TEAM PRIDE last summer to expose Women hockey players to colleges throughout the country. Here is a list of women who participated last year and where they will be playing hockey this fall:

TEAM PRIDE WOMENS SUMMER HOCKEY TOURNAMENT RECAP
Posted August 18, 2009

We enjoyed a very successful weekend at the Chowder Cup. The team compiled a record of 2-1-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals by winning our bracket with a hard fought 0-0 tie on Saturday night against Team Canada West. This was a physical game and capped by a breakaway by Team Canada West and a save by Meg Treacy with 10 seconds left to preserve the tie and reserve our spot on Sunday. The other games saw us defeat the Laconia Lakers 2-1 in our first game together. The game was a sloppy start to our weekend but with some timely scoring and great goaltending, we came out on top. Our second tilt was much better and we dominated the NEWHL Futures 7-0. We had a strong offensive attack and solid goaltending by Olivia Daly to put us in good position to play on Sunday. Sunday’s game was played against The Hornets from Canada. It was a 9am game and it showed with the way we came out of the gate. The Hornets jumped out to a 1-0 lead but with a flurry of great saves we turned the tide and scored the next 2 goals and jumped out to a 2-1 lead. The Hornets did not let up and scored the next 2 goals for the 3-2 victory. All in all it was a good weekend for our girls and we look forward to our trip north where we will compete in the Silver Seven Tournament in Magog, Quebec, August 7-9.

The Silver Seven Tournament took place in Magog, Quebec from August 7-9. TEAM PRIDE was eager to get the weekend under way arriving Thursday night to prepare for our first contest Friday morning at 8am. Our first opponent was the host team, Kanada Selects. Our play was very sluggish and the outcome proved that, losing 3-0. We looked to rebound that evening against Stanstead College and rebound we did, posting a 2-1 victory. We controlled the game outshooting our opponent by a 2-1 margin but struggled to find the back of the net. Our 3rd and much anticipated game was against the CT Polar Bears U-19 squad. As an organization playing right up the highway from TEAM PRIDE, our girls were very focused and ready to go! As the coaching staff stated, “If we could convince our girls they were playing against the Polar Bears every game, they would bare better results.” It was a defensive game played scoreless until the 6 minute mark of the final period. A 3-1 for the Polar Bears proved to be too much and they jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Our girls did not quit and fought back with a goal of our own to tie the contest 1-1. The last few minutes saw chances for both teams until we were whistled for a questionable penalty with 2 minutes left in the game. Our penalty killing was strong for both tourney’s but could not kill this one and the Polar Bears scored to make it 2-1. We pulled our goalie with 1 minute remaining and much to our delight, a make-up call and the Polar Bears are in the box. We keep the goalie pulled to make it a 6 on 4 situation and saw several big saves and missed opportunities! End result a 2-1 defeat. Our 4th game pitted us against the tourney favorite USA Selects and they showed why they were the tourney favorite, beating us badly 8-0. A lot of learning was done and we hoped to take it with us for the game on Sunday. Our 5th and final game was against Boston East Coast Eagles and our girls played good enough for the 2-0 win. All in all a great experience for our girls and we look to build on this as we prepare for the Rhode Island Panther Thanksgiving Tournament and the CT Polar Bear Christmas Tournament this winter.

A special thanks to Christa Talbot for taking the time out of her schedule to coach and to all of the parents for making both tournaments a very enjoyable experience!

TEAM PRIDE WOMENS HOCKEY

Dear Prospective Player,
With the end of one season, comes the beginning of another one. TEAM PRIDE is happy to announce the dates for our upcoming tryouts. They will take place on April 5th at Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke, MA from 12-2pm and will cost $30. In an effort to provide women throughout the New England area the opportunity to showcase their talents, Jessica Tabb and Christa Talbot have created TEAM PRIDE. We enjoyed moderate success last summer and look to build on that success. The team will participate in 2 extremely competitive summer tournaments:

• Chowder Cup (July 30-August 2, 2009)
• Magog, Quebec “Silver Seven” Tournament (August 6-9, 2009)

Jess and Christa both had the opportunity to play collegiately and know what it takes to get there! It is their ultimate goal to pass this knowledge on and put the women student/athlete in the best position possible when it comes to making that step from high school to college. We all know how hectic the hockey season gets! The summer provides a great opportunity for coaches to get out and see talent that they normally would not be able to due to the restraints of their hockey schedules.

The team will consist of 9 Forwards, 5 Defense and 2 Goalies and coached by Jess, Christa and Jeremy Tabb. The cost of the program will be $275.

This will be a truly great experience, both on and off the ice! We hope you will join in our quest to put TEAM PRIDE on the map and kick some butt along the way!

Sincerely,
Jess Tabb, Christa Talbot and Jeremy Tabb
